Lynn Family Stadium will host a Second Round U.S. Open Cup match on April 7, a notable event before Louisville City FC plays the venue’s first official game on April 11.
Currently under construction in the city’s Butchertown neighborhood, Lynn Family Stadium will open in April as the new home of USL Championship’s Louisville City FC. The club is scheduled to play its 2020 regular-season home opener against Birmingham Legion on April 11, and will host a Second Round U.S. Open Cup match on April 7. Possible pairings for that match were released by U.S. Soccer Wednesday evening.
On April 7 at 7 p.m., Louisville City will host the winner of the Nashville United and Cleveland SC (NPSL) matchup at Lynn Family Stadium.
“With the U.S. Open Cup draw this afternoon we now know that we will be hosting on April 7,” Louisville City coach John Hackworth said. “This tournament is an important competition with a rich history. We will be prepared for our initial participation and we look forward to performing in front of our home fans.”
Lynn Family Stadium will feature a seating capacity of 11,700 and a total capacity reaching 14,000. Planning for Lynn Family Stadium has unfolded over the last several years, a response to the success Louisville City FC experienced after its 2015 launch at Louisville Slugger Field—primarily home to Minor League Baseball’s Bats (Class AAA; International League).
