Construction work on Lynn Family Stadium is winding down, as the finishing touches are coming into place at Louisville City FC‘s new home.
Beginning with the 2020 USL Championship season, Louisville City FC will stage home matches at Lynn Family Stadium–a new soccer-specific stadium that is being constructed as part of a larger development initiative in the city’s Butchertown neighborhood. The club’s home opener is scheduled for April 11, and work on the facility is making considerable progress as that date approaches.
During a media tour on Tuesday, Louisville City FC officials gave the latest update on the construction process. Many of the major components of Lynn Family Stadium are already in place, with work to complete certain finishes in the facility underway. More from Louisville Business First:
Howie Lindsey, director of public relations for Louisville City FC, said the heavy lifting of the stadium construction is basically complete. Now they are moving on to those final details, from finishing out the bars and suites to installing railings, cup holders and other stadium accessories. Construction is being led by a joint venture partnership of Messer Construction and Harmon Construction.
From there, crews can start outfitting areas with furniture. As part of the tour, media got an early look inside the locker room, which will not only have lockers but also the coaches’ offices, a training room, a cold tub, training tables and other equipment Lindsey said.
The tour also offered a look inside the aforementioned supporter zone, a standing-room-only section for diehard supporters that will include plenty of room for the Groove Machine, the club’s supporter drumline. The zone is patterned off European models, Lindsey said, and is designed to be a “complete wall of sound.”
Lynn Family Stadium will feature a seating capacity of 11,700 and a total capacity reaching 14,000. Planning for Lynn Family Stadium has unfolded over the last several years, a response to the success Louisville City FC experienced after its 2015 launch at Louisville Slugger Field—primarily home to Minor League Baseball’s Bats (Class AAA; International League). The move into a new stadium should not only give Louisville City FC more control over revenues but will allow it to compete in a venue more optimized to professional soccer.
