MLS commissioner Don Garber stated Thursday that the league is committed to staging a future All-Star Game in Nashville, but no firm date has been set.
Nashville SC will begin MLS play next season as an expansion club. Current plans are for the team to play home matches at Nissan Stadium in 2020 and 2021, then will move into a new stadium at The Faigrounds Nashville in 2022 (rendering above).
With its expansion team on the way, Nashville is already planned as a future MLS All-Star Game host, as Garber revealed that the league has committed to putting a game there. As noted, MLS has not set a season for a game, but Nashville’s experience in hosting major events–including the most recent NFL Draft–makes it an intriguing site for a future MLS All-Star Game. More from the Tennessean:
Speaking at the AP Sports Editors Commissioners Meetings Thursday in New York City, MLS Commissioner Don Garber said that the league has committed to an MLS All-Star Game in Nashville.
Garber said it is part of an expansion agreement where all expansion franchises will host the all-star game at some point. He did not specify which season that the MLS All-Star Game will be played in Nashville….
Garber said he watched the NFL Draft and was impressed. The attendance for the three-day draft was an estimated 600,000, Brian McCarthy, the NFL’s vice president of communications, said.
Nashville’s MLS expansion bid was initially approved in December 2017. Construction on the new stadium should begin later this year.
