Tormenta FC has been revealed as a founding member of USL D3, with an official announcement scheduled for later this week.
Last year, it was learned that Tormenta FC–currently a member of the Premier Development League–was exploring a move to USL D3, the upcoming Division III circuit. The club currently plays its games at Erk Russell Athletic Park, but it previously revealed a proposal for a new 5,000-seat stadium that would be constructed in Statesboro, GA if it moved to the league.
That move to the upcoming league appears to be official, as Tormenta FC is poised to be announced as the first member of USL D3. That announcement will occur Thursday. More from WTOC.com:
The USL vice president said on a radio show/podcast, Soccer Down Here, that Tormenta will be a founding member of the league.
The official unveiling will be on Thursday and you can watch the news conference live on D3’s official Facebook page.
Plans for USL D3 were announced last March, with the circuit having a launch date of 2019. The league has pitched as a way to bring Division III soccer to markets that range from between 150,000 and a million in population.
