Audi Field is approaching a milestone in its construction process, as D.C. United has announced a topping off ceremony for January 26.
The ceremony will commemorate the placement of the final piece of structural steel in the new soccer-specific stadium. The milestone signifies another completed phase of construction at Audi Field.
Fans will be able to sign the final beam before it is set in place starting at 1:30 PM on January 26 before the ceremony begins at 2:00 PM. There is no parking available on site—fans and media are encouraged to plan accordingly and walk to the site from the Navy Yard metro station, or Uber to the 50 Potomac Ave., drop-off point.
United’s new home in Southwest D.C. is set to officially open at 7:00 PM on Saturday, July 14, when United host the Vancouver Whitecaps in the stadium’s inaugural match. Audi Field is one of two new MLS venues that will open in 2018, with the other being Los Angeles FC’s Banc of California Stadium.
