To build additional hype for its upcoming home, D.C. United has launched new social media accounts for Audi Field.
Currently under construction in D.C.’s Buzzard Point neighborhood, Audi Field is a significant development for United. The club had spent years seeking a replacement for RFK Stadium and, in a major step toward fulfilling that goal, began work on Audi Field this year.
At its current pace, Audi Field will not be ready for the beginning of the 2018 MLS season and is not expected to open until the summer. More exact details about its debut and United’s 2018 schedule will emerge over time, but the team is releasing some information on the stadium through its new social media channels–including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The stadium also has a website, audifielddc.com.
In addition, the club has released a fly-through video that showcases the various views and amenities within the facility.
United had played its home games at RFK Stadium since its inaugural 1996 season. The club hosted its finale at the historic facility last month, and is not expected to play any matches there in 2018.
Audi Field is one of two new facilities set to open for MLS action in 2018. The other is Banc of California Stadium, which will be home to the expansion Los Angeles FC.
