RD Management has announced plans for a mixed-use development that will take shape outside of Allianz Field, future home of Minnesota United FC.
Work is underway in St. Paul’s Midway area for the construction of Allianz Field. The stadium has been pitched over the last several years as the anchor of a larger development effort, and now more details are being released on some of the amenities that will be constructed outside of the stadium.
The New York-based RD Management has announced plans for a mixed-use development on a 20-acre parcel that will bring amenities such as lodging, entertainment, residential, office, and retail spaces to the area. A project along these lines is compatible with a previous master plan for the site, and development would begin after the construction of Allianz Field is complete. More from The Star Tribune:
“I think the biggest thing about this announcement is it is a reality. … We think this is going to be a significant addition to the neighborhood,” Minnesota United FC owner Bill McGuire said in an interview.
While there has already been significant interest in the site, the announcement is informing potential partners nationally “that this property is out there and all of its merits and virtues and that it is moving ahead,” McGuire said.
Minnesota United is heavily involved with the development and McGuire said the team could eventually have a variety of roles at the property.
The proposed development would align with the master plan the St. Paul City Council approved last year for the area.
United FC is slated to play the 2018 season at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium–the facility that was also its home in 2017–and is privately financing the construction of the new $200 million Allianz Field. The venue is expected to open for the 2019 MLS season.
