Finding it hard to compete with MLS’s Austin FC, the management of USL Championship’s Austin Bold FC is looking at whether to continue operations in Austin or move to a new market.
The expansion Austin FC has proven to be a huge draw in Austin, drawing sellout crowds to the new Q2 Stadium. That’s not left much room in the market for Austin Bold FC, which has seen its own numbers decline this season over 2019. (No, COVID-19 certainly didn’t help, either.) The team’s home is Bold Stadium at Circuit of the Americas.
Now, the team can draw at Bold Stadium, but not necessarily with USL Championship soccer. Indeed, the team sold out a match in July against La Liga’s Cruz Azul. But the writing is on the wall, and Austin Bold FC issued the following statement:
