Houston Dynamo, Levy Update Food Options

Houston Dynamo Concessions rendering

The Houston Dynamo and Levy Restaurants have made some changes to the concessions at BBVA Compass Stadium, which could lead to improved service and menu options.

First announced late last month, the changes include a major overhaul to the stadium’s south concourse. That adjustment at BBVA Compass Stadium allows for the introduction of new food and drink options.

A full list of what to expect this season can be found here, but the Dynamo and Levy are welcoming a concept called Taste of EaDo, which will lead to some local menu options. Among the stands to be included are H-Town Grill, the walk-in HTX International Market, 713 Taqueria, and Diggity Dogs, which will feature a two-foot Colombian-style hot dog. The local connection will extend beyond the food, as the Pitch Side Pub will include ales from local breweries along with more widely-distributed national and international beers.

Introducing the new food and drink options is a major step, but Levy is also looking to allow customers to get in and out of line more efficiently. More from The Houston Chronicle:

BBVA Compass Stadium will sport a new bar, new concession stands and a bellyful of new menu items. Feeding soccer fans is a whole different ball game than stuffing baseball, basketball or football crowds.

“We have to be faster in soccer,” said Cyndi Levitt, queen of queso for Levy, which runs the food concessions at BBVA Compass Stadium. “In basketball, there are so many team time outs, and breaks after the first and third quarters and halftime. There’s so much scoring that if you miss a few baskets it’s not a big deal.

“With soccer, there’s a running clock without timeouts. There are two 45-minute halves, and it goes pretty fast. The games are usually low-scoring, so if a fan misses a goal while waiting at a concession stand, it’s a huge deal. Speed and customer service are critically important. We need to come up with food items that we can make quickly and sell quickly.”

The new stands and menu options are expected to be available when the Dynamo open the season at BBVA Compass Stadium on March 4.
