Workers lay first beam on new St. Louis CITY SC stadium

Work on a new St. Louis CITY SC stadium hit a major milestone on Monday when construction crews laid the first steel beam on the project, signed by fans of the MLS squad and fabricated locally by a member of the construction team.

Construction of the facility is via a joint venture of Mortenson, Alberici and L. Keeley (MAK), with manufacturing of the beam from Alberici. Groundbreaking on the new stadium came 10 months ago, but enters a new phase with work beginning on the structural phase of the project.

“It’s astounding to think how far this team and our construction partners at MAK have come in the last 10 months, completing the early construction phase safely and on-time,” said Khalia Collier, Vice President of Community Relations for St. Louis CITY SC, via press release. “I’m honored to have signed the stadium district’s first steel beam and mark my name in St. Louis sports history. Now, with the steel in place, I’m looking forward to seeing our world-class stadium district continue to take shape and help further the growth and revitalization of St. Louis.”

CITY selected the “starting XI” fans to join the steel beam signing ceremony for the new St. Louis CITY SC stadium construction from the club’s contest that was posted on the club’s website and shared across all social channels.

“It was a no-brainer to have fans be a part of this historic moment for the club and our region,” Sebek said via press release. “Our passionate fans always have and always will be a high priority to CITY, and we will continue creating engaging experiences like this ahead of our inaugural season in 2023 and beyond.”

The downtown St. Louis facility and stadium district are set to open in the 2023 season.

The team put together a video on the milestone; check it out here.
