Updated renderings have been unveiled for the new St. Louis MLS stadium, reflecting some adjustments to the design of the upcoming facility.
The new St. Louis stadium is currently scheduled to be completed in time for the 2022 MLS season, when it will begin hosting a yet-to-be-branded expansion club. Certain adjustments have been made to the stadium’s design, with new renderings released Wednesday highlighting some features on the exterior.
Designed by HOK and Snow Kreilich Architects, the renderings show steps on the eastern edge of the stadium, a reworked western façade and fan entrance (depicted in the rendering at the top of the page), and updated landscaping plans. Among the advantages that project officials expect from the new designs include better accessibility from the street, and improved connectivity to surrounding landmarks. More from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
“Making the stadium more accessible from 22nd street and adjusting planting locations to create a more active public environment will only enhance the stadium’s ability to connect Downtown West and extend the Gateway Mall, while directing it north and south,” Julie Snow, co-founder of Snow Kreilich Architects, said in a statement.
Slated to be built west of Union Station in downtown St. Louis, the new stadium project will be primarily financed through private dollars from the club’s ownership group, which features members of Enterprise Holding’s Taylor family—including Enterprise Holdings Foundation president Carolyn Kindle Betz—and Worldwide Technology CEO Jim Kavanaugh. It calls for the venue to anchor redevelopment in the Downtown West district, which will include the construction of practice fields and other team facilities across from the stadium. St. Louis is slated to be one of two expansion teams that begins MLS play in 2022, joined by Sacramento.
