Another strong week for professional soccer attendance in MLS, NWSL and USL, as MLS records the best numbers of the season and NWSL rebounds from a down week.
We track attendance for the free weekly Soccer Stadium Digest newsletter (if you subscribed, you’d already have this information in your inbox), which comes out Monday mornings, and here are the highlights of this week’s numbers:
- The best week of the season for total numbers, as 2018 MLS attendance soars over 300,000 over 16 matches.
- An up week for 2018 NWSL attendance in Week 7, as big crowds from Portland Thorns FC and Utah Royals FC paced the totals.
- After last week’s record 2018 USL attendance, this week’s numbers were closer to average — but there were plenty of bright spots in those numbers.
Another reason to subscribe to the free newsletter: you’ll see stories sent to our subscribers before they’re posted to the site. This week we delve into Tom Ricketts’ purchase of a majority share of a new Chicago USL team playing out of what could be a trendy venue–and what it might mean for the Chicago Fire and MLS. Watch for the article to be posted tomorrow — and if you subscribe to the weekly newsletter, enjoy reading it today.
