Despite all the bad weather, U.S./Canadian pro soccer leagues are up when it comes to attendance so far in 2018 — with the best months of the box office still to come.
We track attendance for the free weekly Soccer Stadium Digest newsletter (if you subscribed, you’d already have this information in your inbox), which comes out Monday mornings, and here are the highlights of this week’s numbers:
- A milestone: 2018 MLS attendance surpassed the 2-million mark in Week 10, with 245,731 fans entering league turnstiles.
- Technically, it was the worst week of numbers for 2018 NWSL attendance in Week 6, but the good news for the league is that a down week didn’t really impact the yearly numbers, as the lucrative summer schedule is still on tap.
- Huge week for 2018 USL attendance, as the league attracted over 100,000 fans to 20 matches.
Another reason to subscribe to the free newsletter: you’ll see stories sent to our subscribers before they’re posted to the site. This week our Jon Bruning interviews Las Vegas Lights FC owner Brett Lashbrook about his team’s success and the prospects of playing in a renovated Cashman Field. Watch for the article to be posted tomorrow — and if you subscribe to the weekly newsletter, enjoy reading it today.
