A major announcement is on tap for Orlando City SC‘s new stadium, as club officials have said that a naming rights partner will be revealed soon.
Just months away from its opening, the new stadium continues to make progress toward completion. Sod for the playing surfaced was laid last month, a project that occurred weeks after crews began installing seats at the facility.
Within the coming days, the organization could announce its naming rights partner for the downtown Orlando venue. Team CEO Alex Leitão revealed the news to the Orlando Sentinel earlier this week:
“Almost there,” Leitão told the Orlando Sentinel in an exclusive interview Monday. “I’m pretty confident that we are very close. Could be this week.”
“Those kinds of things, until it’s done, there is no deal. We are in very advanced conversations and it’s the right partner, and I’ll be very happy if we are able to announce this as soon as possible.”
The eventual partner’s name will grace five areas in the new stadium, based on master signage plans submitted to the city, including the upper left corner of a 1,935-square-foot image of the Lions’ logo pained on architectural metal panels.
The first MLS game at the stadium is scheduled for March 5, and will feature Orlando City SC in a matchup against New York City FC. Along with the MLS squad, the new facility will host the NWSL’s Orlando Pride and the USL’s Orlando City B.
