Ferrell Sees Room for MLS, LAFC to Grow

New Los Angeles FC Stadium

One of several investors amidst a star-studded group, actor and comedian Will Ferrell foresees a bright future for Los Angeles FC and the MLS.

An interesting angle in the development of Los Angeles FC is the notable names within its ownership ranks. Along with Ferrell, Mia Hamm and her husband Nomar Garciapara are part of the group, joining Magic Johnson. The hierarchy for the franchise also includes film producer and executive Peter Guber as chairperson, with businessman Henry Nguyen on board as an owner.

That has certainly added to the hype surrounding Los Angeles FC, which is set to join the MLS in 2018. For his part, Ferrell believes that this franchise is emerging at the perfect time for both Southern California and the MLS. More from FourFourTwo.com:

“I love watching it generally speaking,” Ferrell told ESPN after being asked why he decided to get involved in football.

“I don’t really have a side per se until LAFC get started and that will definitely be, obviously, my team.

“But I just love the fact that it’s played all over the world. So many amazing players and so many top flight leagues. And hopefully MLS can be on par, eventually, with the European leagues.”

With its new stadium (shown above) opening for the team’s debut season, Los Angeles FC will receive plenty of attention before it begins play. Having the backing of a star such as Ferrell should only add to the anticipation.
