New Orange County SC Stadium to Debut in August

Orange County SC Great Sports Park

Irvine officials are gearing up for the opening of phase one of the Great Park Sports Park, which will include a new home for Orange County SC

By next month, the USL club will be playing its home games at a new soccer-specific facility that is being billed as the Orange County Great Park Championship Stadium. The venue will include 2,506 fixed seats, plus berm seating that could fit about another 2,500 fans.

Irvine has announced that it will stage a grand opening event for the first phase of the 194-acre park, including the new stadium, on August 5, and city officials expect that it will only be the beginning for the project. More from the Orange County Register:

Councilwoman Christina Shea said the Aug. 5 opening marks the beginning of many more features that will come to the Great Park in the next few years.

“It’s a big park,” Shea said. “It takes time to grow. … Now that all that infrastructure is in there, we are starting to see the fruit of the development.”

As for Orange County SC, it is already making plans for its debut at the stadium. According to a tweet from the club’s account on Monday, it will host Tulsa for its first match at the new stadium on August 15:

Leading up to the opening of the new stadium, the club has been playing its home matches at a pop-up stadium at Orange County Great Park. This will mark the latest change for Orange County SC, as the club–formerly known as the Orange County Blues–underwent a rebranding process prior to the 2017 season.
