Fans are being asked for their input on the design and entertainment features of a new Sacramento Republic FC stadium, as team management moves ahead with planning in anticipation of an MLS franchise down the road.
Though Sacramento was shut out of the most recent round of MLS expansion for 2018, new stadiums in Minnesota and Miami are far from a sure thing. This is leading Sacramento Republic FC officials to move ahead with planning in case either Minnesota or Miami falls through and MLS decides to award Sacramento a team instead. Another scenario that makes these efforts worthwhite: MLS decides to expand past 24 years for 2019 and beyond.
The stadium project team is currently in beginning stages of the conceptual design phase of stadium development. A full concept design for the new facility will be completed later this year.
Fan and community input are essential to our club ranging from the creation of our brand to the atmosphere at our matches,” said President Warren Smith. “Listening and engaging fans, and the neighborhoods surrounding soccer stadiums, goes back to the origins of the sport and is woven in the fabric of it today. This vital feedback from the community will not only assist us in the design of the stadium but also garner ideas on how it will serve as a catalyst towards our goal of making Sacramento as a better place to work, live and play.”
Multiple opportunities are being created over the course of several months to garner input, ideas and feedback from fans, organizations and the public as a whole. The initial phase will focus on gathering public input on design and architectural features of the stadium. Two of these key elements are an online survey and series of public workshops.
In subsequent phases of public engagement, Republic FC and the stadium project team will seek feedback on other components of the stadium development, including event programming, food and beverage selections, retail spaces and more.
