Another strong week on the 2023 NWSL attendance front in Week 22, as the league’s final week of the regular season saw big crowds across the board.
All league home matches are accounted for in this year-end summary save one: a Week Five Houston/North Carolina game was eventually recorded as an abandoned match because of weather conditions, and no attendance number was reported.
In good news for the league’s 2024 planning, all 12 matches on the final two weeks of the regular season saw big crowds across the board: all 12 teams drew numbers exceeding their season average. Only one team saw attendance go down, with the Chicago Red Stars off some 17 percent. However, with new ownership in place in the Windy City, we’d expect a turnaround in 2024.
This season saw a little more stability for the league on the facilities front. Washington Spirit played its entire home schedule at Audi Field–no more heading to the suburbs and Loudoun County for matches–while NJ/NY Gotham FC played all home games at Red Bull Arena.
Overall, 2023 NWSL attendance is up 32 percent over 2022.
