Canadian Premier League

Plans for the inaugural Canadian Premier League match have been announced, as Forge FC will host York9 FC at Hamilton’s Tim Hortons Field on Saturday, April 27. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m local time.

“Celebrating the launch of our own national soccer league in Hamilton is extremely exciting,” said CPL and Forge FC Co-Founder Bob Young. “This match will mark the official launch of a truly Canadian professional soccer league, and it’s also the beginning of another great rivalry for fans in Hamilton and the York Region/Greater Toronto Area.”

“We are beyond excited to kick-off our first season in Hamilton at the end of April,” said David Clanachan, Commissioner, Canadian Premier League. “Canadians have been waiting for what seems like forever for their own sanctioned professional league with clubs playing coast to coast. There is no doubt that I share that level of excitement.”

The Canadian Premier League will begin regular-season play in late April with seven teams. In addition to Forge FC and York 9, the slate of clubs competing in the league’s inaugural season includes Calvary FC (Calgary), FC Edmonton, HFX Wanderers, Pacific FC (Langford), and Valour FC (Winnipeg). A complete 2019 regular-season schedule will be announced at a later date.
