It’s Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami for New Beckham MLS Squad

Miami FC Mark Guide

We have the official unveiling of the name and crest of the new Beckham MLS squad: Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami, as the expansion team goes for a classic Miami look.

The crest and name, according to the team, “represents Miami’s international, diverse, inclusive, creative and ambitious spirit.” A guide to the crest — shown above — ties together the great blue heron so prevalent in Florida with local colors and unique design elements. Doubleday & Cartwright, a design and media agency based in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, came up with the designed and worked on the branding with the Beckham team. The shortened version of the name that will undoubtedly be used more often: Inter Miami CF.

“This is such a proud day for myself and for the entire team,” said team owner and president of operations David Beckham in a press release. “It’s an honour to announce the new name and crest to our fans — we are taking another important step in establishing our Club and today marks an important moment in the history of Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami.”

This isn’t new information: a version of the crest leaked in August.

The new Beckham MLS squad is backed by a group that is headlined by David Beckham, and also features prominent local businessmen Jorge and Jose Mas, American Idol founder Simon Fuller, SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son and Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure.

The next step for the team: garnering public approval for a new privately financed stadium on a November referendum. The group is zeroing in on the Melreese site, located near Miami International Airport, so that it has a large enough location to construct a new stadium that is attached to a larger development project. The proposal, dubbed Miami Freedom Park, features a new 25,000-seat soccer-specific stadium, along with surrounding development that includes hotels, retail, offices, and other features on 73 acres, plus 58 acres of park space on the remainder of the 131-acre site. The MLS group would enter into a lease of up to 99 years.
