After overseeing a period that included the club’s transition to MLS, Nick Rogers is leaving his post as president of Minnesota United FC.
Rogers’s tenure in the position dated back to 2013, when he was appointed president of the-then Minnesota Stars of the NASL. During his time as team president, Rogers led the organization through several successful NASL campaigns before it made the move to MLS as an expansion entry for the 2017 season.
United FC announced the departure of Rogers on Tuesday, and confirmed in the process that it has no plans to fill the president position. The Star Tribune reported that its attempts to reach Rogers for comment were unsuccessful.
The end of Rogers’s run comes months after United FC announced that it had hired Chris Wright as its first CEO. Wright, whose appointment with the club was announced in September, was hired to oversee the business and sporting sides of United FC after spending 13 seasons as president of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. Before joining United FC, Wright had been involved in a major multi-phase renovation of the Target Center, the home of the Timberwolves and the Lynx.
United FC just completed its first MLS season, playing home games at the University of Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium. The club is slated to play there again for the 2018 season, its last at the venue before the brand new Allianz Field in St. Paul opens for the 2019 campaign.
