Based on high demand for an upcoming International Champions Cup match, it appears that Nashville is on the verge of setting another attendance record.
Just weeks ago, Nashville soccer supporters helped build the largest crowd ever for a match in the state of Tennessee. The July 8 CONCACAF Gold Cup contest between the United States and Panama at Nissan Stadium drew 47,622 fans, surpassing the previous state record of 44,835 that was set in 2015.
Now, it appears that that record an even larger crowd is on the horizion. More than 45,000 tickets have reportedly been sold for the July 29 ICC match between Manchester City and Tottenham, and event organizers believe the final attendance figure could be around 60,000. More from The Tennessean:
Organizer Charlie Stillitano said more than 45,000 tickets have been sold. He expects the attendance to reach as high as 60,000, just short of the stadium’s listed capacity of 69,143.
“The event’s been tracking very well,” he said.
The predicted figure is based on data points taken from Ticketmaster, which makes its projections based on the average number of tickets sold for the event per day.
This comes as Nashville makes a push to land an MLS expansion franchise. Nashville’s bid, led by businessman John Ingram, was one of 12 to be submitted to the league earlier this year.
