MLS bid in Ottawa in serious trouble

An investment group promising to spend $120 million on a mixed-use development in Lansdowne Park in exchange for city funding of a Frank Clair Stadium renovation apparently has won the support of city officials, who will debate the issue today.

If Frank Clair Stadium is renovated at roughly a C$100 million price tag, the group would also bring back CFL football to Ottawa.

The city had been evaluating two proposals: one from the CFL group and the other from Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk for an MLS stadium in Kanata.
