NISA Expected to Begin Play in 2018

NISA

Details have been released on the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA), an independent third division professional soccer league that plans to launch in 2018.

Established by Peter Wilt and Jack Cummins, who are partners at Rebel Nest Sports, the NISA has letters of intent from 10 markets to join the league, according to an announcement that was made earlier this week. The NISA also has detailed potential plans for future seasons. The league plans to field its maximum 24 teams by 2021, and at that point would institute a promotion and relegation system that would involve other independent leagues.

The NISA is looking to begin play next spring in markets across the United States. In its announcement, the NISA detailed its four pillars of foundation:

An affordable pro division national soccer league with regional based competition

An independent league with team owners controlling their franchises

A plan to limit the League to 24 teams and incorporate promotion and relegation once fully populated

A strong league office that serves its teams with quality staff supplemented by expert consultants

“These pillars are critical to differentiate NISA and provide the framework for a sustainable league that will ensure success for itself as well as for other independent leagues that share our vision for an open structure that will provide all soccer clubs with a pathway to fulfill their ambitions,” Wilt said in a statement.

Two other organizations–Club 9 Sports and Level 7 Interactive–are involved in the league’s development. According to the announcement, Club 9 offers “expertise in raising capital and providing advisory services,” while the marketing firm Level 7 ” will work with NISA and its teams to ensure stability.”

Both Wilt and Cummins are expected to have leadership roles in the league. The NISA’s offices will be based in Chicago.
