FC Cincinnati Sets New Attendance Record in Home Opener

FC Cincinnati opener

The beginning of its home slate marked another attendance milestone for FC Cincinnati, which drew over 23,000 fans to its home opener.

For Saturday’s match, FC Cincinnati drew a reported attendance figure of 23,144 fans to Nippert Stadium. The contest set a new USL attendance record, as FC Cincinnati’s mark is now the highest for a home opener in league history.

FC Cincinnati easily shattered the previous record, which was set in 2014. More from the Cincinnati Enquirer:

FC Cincinnati on Saturday kicked off its slate of home matches for the 2017 home matches at Nippert Stadium. They attracted a crowd of 23,144 for the occasion, surpassing the previous USL home-opener attendance record of 20,231 set by Sacramento Republic FC during the 2014 season.

The crowd was so large that team and stadium officials moved decorative tarps from the Nippert grandstands at halftime to accommodate ticket holders.

This is the sophomore season for FC Cincinnati, which set several attendance records last year. One of those was achieved in September, when the club drew a single-game record of 24,376 fans to a match against Orlando City B.

FC Cincinnati treated its fans to a good performance on Saturday, winning a 4-0 contest over St. Louis FC. The club’s next home game is scheduled for Wednesday.
