Over 40K tickets sold for Orlando City SC debut

Orlando CityTalk about coming out of the gate strong:  over 40,000 tickets have been sold for the March 8 Orlando City SC debut at the Citrus Bowl.

This has been a big offseason for Orlando City SC, one of two expansion teams in MLS this season: the team has successfully lobbied for a new stadium set to open for the 2016 season and took root as a hometown team. The March 8 opener against New York City FC — the other expansion team — should help cement the team’s standing, as over 40,000 tickets have been sold for the Citrus Bowl, the team’s temporary home for 2015.

“Orlando City fans have responded in overwhelming numbers since last Saturday and the milestones continue to fall as we approach the history-making season opener,” said Club President and Founder Phil Rawlins. “Three weeks remain and we are within reach of our goal to #FillTheBowl! Orlando and all of Central Florida have embraced Purple Pride. We are going to show the nation on March 8th why we are the ‘Soccer Capital of the South.’”

Despite the impressive sales for the Orlando City SC debut, team officials say plenty of tickets are still available: A limited number of season tickets remain in the lower bowl, according to a press release, and the Plaza level has nearly sold out for the opening game.
