Minnesota United FC part of soccer doubleheader at TCF Bank Stadium

Minnesota United FCBig day for professional soccer at Minneapolis’s TCF Bank Stadium this summer: Manchester City and Olympiacos will be on a double bill with Minnesota United FC and the Ottawa Fury.

Kickoff for the match between the two European clubs, which will be broadcast internationally on Fox Sports 2, is set for 2 p.m. CDT, while Minnesota United will kick off their match at 4:30 p.m. CDT. Minnesota’s match will be televised live locally on KSTC45-TV.

“On August 2nd, fans at TCF Bank Stadium will witness one of the greatest professional soccer events in Minnesota history,” said United President Nick Rogers. “We are thrilled to partner with Relevent Sports to produce this great event. This is going to be a great day for soccer in Minnesota.”

It’s certainly a good exposure for Minnesota United FC, rumored to be under contention for a move to MLS in coming years. Before that happens, the team will need a new stadium and a larger fan base. A game at TCF Bank Stadium, home to the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers and Minnesota Vikings (NFL) football teams, is certainly a great showcase for United: Season-ticket holders will be given one complimentary ticket (per season ticket) to the Guinness International Champions Cup match.
